January 1st to March 31st, 2016
близнец (Bliznets) present Vierte Dimension, an all-encompassing film experience. Taking the entirety of the main Smelter Gallery, with projections on floor, ceiling and walls, and fully surrounding multi-channel sound, Vierte Dimension celebrated CATE’S opening with an exploration of new technologies to pay homage to the past glories of the Weimar aesthetic movement. Modern 3-D footage sits beside snippets from iconic films early German cinema – Metropolis, Nosferatu, Cabinet of Doctor Caligari.
The twins are also commissioned by the board of CATE to redevelop the former rolling mill as a research facility to development of contemporary cinema, and as studios and performance spaces for the performing arts. Paying homage to their love of early German art movements, the centre will be titled The Weimar Centre of Contemporary Cinema and Performing Arts.
